Race Options

There are a number of races to choose from that will be suitable for all abilities. A full breakdown of the races are below.


SENIOR RACES


The Single = a 750m swim consisting of 1 loop around the main lake. Starts 10.40am.

The Double = a 1500m swim consisting of 2 loops around the main lake. Starts 10.35am.

The Quad = a 3000m swim consisting of 4 loops around the main lake. Starts 10.30am.

The Enduro = a 7500m swim consisting of 10 loops around the main lake. Starts 10.15am.

All swimmers will be issued a colour coded swim cap that will designate the distance they are competing in. Depending on water temperature it will be acceptable for swimmers to swim without a wetsuit if they desire, however they will be required to wear a tow float.


**JUNIOR AGE ALLOWANCES**


We have taken the decision that Juniors will be able to enter the longer distance races as there is a growing demand for longer swim events for Juniors competing at a higher level. Juniors will be able to enter after we receive a written request from their parent/coach with an explanation of their swim background and validation from their club coach that this kind of swim race is suitable for them. All requests for any Junior to enter a longer distance event should be sent to dermott@beendurance.com

The Double (1500m) – This will be open to Juniors aged 10yrs or older on 15th September 2019

The Quad (3000m) – This will be open to Juniors aged 12yrs or older on 15th September 2019

The Enduro (7500) – This will be open to Juniors aged 14yrs or older on 15th September 2019


There will be a dedicated water safety team in the water with the swimmers in the case of an emergency.

 


JUNIOR RACES


Junior250 = a 250m swim in the main lake. Starts 12.00pm.

Junior500 = a 500m swim in the main lake. Starts 12.15pm.

Junior750 = a 750m swim in the main lake. Starts 12.30pm.

 

All Junior races are open to children aged between 8-16 on race day. All children must wear a wetsuit and if desired a tow float can be made available for them.

There will be a dedicated water safety team in the water with the swimmers in the case of an emergency.

 


SWIMRUN


This race is only open to Seniors aged 16 and above. The concept of a SwimRun event is that participants work in pairs and must stay as a pair throughout the race. The participants complete a number of swims and runs to make their way to the finish line. Starts 10.00.

At this stage the approximate distances for the race are as follows:

Section 1: Run 1.8km

Section 2: Swim 1.5km

Section 3: Run 4km

Section 4: Swim 1km

Section 5: Run 3.3km

Section 6: Swim 750m

Section 7: Run 1.7km

Section 8: Swim 500m

 

Distances are approximate and measured using a GPS tracking device. The race organisers reserve the right to alter the course if necessary.

  • 1. The pair of competitors MUST stay within 10m of each other at all times throughout the race.

    2. Swim caps MUST be worn at all times when swimming.

    3. The pair will be provided with a numbered vest which MUST be worn at all times throughout the race.

    4. Wearing running shoes during the swim section is optional. Wearing running shoes during the run sections is mandatory!!

    5. The use of hand paddles is optional.

    6. The use of a Pull Buoy is optional.

    7. Wearing a wetsuit is optional. If you choose to not wear a wetsuit you MUST use a tow float.

    8. If you choose to use hand paddles, or a pull buoy, or a tow float you MUST take these with you on the run sections. What you start with, you must finish with!!

    9. The pair will be timed by checking into a timing station at various points throughout the race. The frequency of visits to the timing station will be made clear in the Athlete Guide. Both competitors must be no more than 10m apart when arriving at the timing station.
